Artist's Comments

This was shot at the top of Corcovado, in which Christ The Redeemer is. People were waiting on the line for their turn to get in the vans and make their way back and as I was observing them, I noticed that time to time they had to walk, making a beautiful pattern. I was able to capture it and the clean sky as background helped me with the soft white and grey background.

Almost aways, the beauty in our everyday life is unnoticed. I say almost always cause we, photographers, are one of the exceptions. It is so good to be a photographer! My mom was very surprised that I could portray such beauty in a simple queue of people, being even more surprised when she thought that she was there too, but could not see anything at all. Society models the behavior of people, and wherever you are you are expected to do the proper things for the situation, and we end up forgetting to actually observe our surroundings.

I think I'm too philosophical today =P

EDIT: Submitted it now as a print!

The Line by =oO-Rein-Oo. Quoting the suggester: While it's a good shot with good framing, I think what really makes this picture stand out is the fact that it's a spontaneous shot of people standing in a line. Put in B&W like this, it really shows the pattern in these people's postures and positions that would go unnoticed in colors - something that occurred randomly, creating a fleeting pattern and symmetry and then disappeared just as quickly a it had appeared as soon as one of them moved. It's a message that we should learn to see the beauty in mundane, everyday scenes. (Suggested by =Calibre-Not-Output and Featured by ^bQw)

ok so first things first.
wow!
i wish i was this good. but i'm only just starting.
i agree that its a litle top heavy with a lot of sky.
but.
i think sometimes it works and this is one of those times.

shadewise i'd be tempted to try and isolate one of the lighter shirts highlighting one of the people in line could serve to emphasise the vibe of the picture.
but.
(im sorry it 2:30 am here so brains not engaged)

i feel that if you took that route it may seam cluttered and what makes this work is the natural clean symplicity of it.
and there even apears to be a slight pattern in the hights of the people.

um i really hope at least a fraction of this makes scence. and if i does let it be this bit:

FAN-BLOODY-TASTC.

fact! :D

First off I got hand it to you great idea very orginal and thoughful :)

I like the sapcing in between each individial it's very semilar in between each peson.

The all are playing with there cell phone haha thats funny.

I personally think If the people were in silhoutte and that there was more shadow that it would had created a bigger impact like dunno the same line aroudn 7:30 in the evening when the sun is setting. I'm also thinking threes bit to much sky maybee shrink it and make it a paronama or whatever you call them lol.

Anyhow great picture none the less just stating what I would had liked to see :)

Hope it helps :)

Okay, I was going to leave a critique, but apparently only subscribed users can do that too... DAmn capitalism :lmao:

Anyways... An evenly spaced line? In MY Brazil? Hard to believe everyone isn't clustered together in small groups along the line.

I like the framing here. Everyone is almost the same height and at practically the same distance from each other, and while I usually don't like a frame full of bleak, empty sky, it helps set the ambient in this picture. Then out of nowhere that lightpost in the left breaks the pattern and provides a direction to the viewer. The idea conveyed by the picture is simple, so it's good that the picture is also simple - that is, in gray-scale - the colors would probably distract the viewer from the pattern, especially the colors of people's clothes.

It's also fun how three guys are fiddling with their cell phones and the other three people are looking down. It's almost like they were all trying to act casual.

I think the white outline you added could have been thinner, though. It would probably look better thick rather than thin in this case, but it's a bit too thick.

Consider the photo critiqued. A poor man's critique, but a critique nonetheless.

You've one mouth and two ears...use them in that proportion.

I'd say this is really nice, Carlos. But that isn't good enough for this photo. The composition just totally works. Beauty in everyday life indeed! Paulo may be right, though, about the white "matting". Maybe if it was the thickness of one of the people's bodies. Not sure, though.

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...
It's about learning to sing in the rain.

Now the frame looks much better! :D
