Today's journal is about street photography. I know it is not a very popular genre here o dA, sometimes even overlooked, but it is time to sit down, grab a coffee and learn more about this amazing photography genre.
Street photography IS NOT photo of streets. It is all about people in candid situations and their interaction with their surroundings. As defined by the Wikipedia, "Street photography is a type of documentary photography that features subjects in candid situations within public places such as streets, parks, beaches, malls, political conventions and other settings."
In other words, it is all about the people and their interactions with their surroundings in unplanned situations and unexpected stuff. Telling stories and seeking for things happening that are worth to be shown in a picture. This is the beauty of it all. It can capture raw emotions, unusual interactions, odd and ironic stuff. The street photographer is observative and always aware of everything happening so that anticipation can work well not to lose a moment.
The camera does not matter, the deal is to actually have a camera of any kind. In fact, if you find yourself trying to get candids with that huge camera, you'll see that it does not help and can even ruin your shots. In street photography, you want to be discrete and fast, and that's definitely not happening if you are hoilding a huge camera in front of your face.
I love to shoot street, and I have some pieces in my gallery. I will be adding some more in the near future, and I hope you enjoy the style through my eyes. Here are some samples that can be found in my gallery:
